In a ground breaking test using near field communications (NFC), Kinetic had positive results with engagement with some of their clients on bus shelter advertising. Individuals were sent a message on their cell phone when in close proximity to select bus shelters that resulted in coupon redemptions and being aware of special offers at retail. Carroll Media has conducted some audits/compliance of QR codes, which is a different technology but also related to OOH engagement, but to date we have not seen our clients utilize NFC .

The promise for NFC is promising with this test.  As the OOH industry – and others in the media word are championing engagement –  we feel that this technology will pique the interest of advertisers to look closer at the full scope of what OOH can offer.
